Through process, the body becomes the axis of circuitous communications between residual and potential. The body is the centre of an intricate paradigm of real and unreal. My chosen materials are line, bodies, organic objects, fibres, fluids, landscape, sound and light. I turn to these materials not only for aesthetical virtues but also as presages I must read.
In my minds eye I reduce form to archetypal symbol so that it expresses a fundamental essence while continuing to metamorphosize between many different entities. Transformation never ceases and therefore nor does movement.
My subjects are always one thing but also another: The fluid is at once ocean, mother’s milk and nuclear waste. A body on hands and knees is simultaneously a wolf, my mother washing the floor and ancient architecture. In this way my statements are personal, socio-political, biological and of the Divine. The emotion I express is caused by a tension in a body that I believe holds the collective history. In the community, my role as artist is to exorcise it and bring it forth. It is a psycho-physiological experience of rejoice and lament. This affords me a practice that is not only artistic but one of self-evolving.
My name is Emma-Kate Guimond. This is my solo work.
